Local health professional, Dr. Meaghan Delaney, was principal investigator and primary author on a research paper recently accepted for publication in the prestigious Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism. The research was an attempt to identify new mechanisms causing uterine fibroid tumors to grow. Hormones and specifically, progesterone have been implicated as traditional causes.

Dr. Delaney’s efforts revealed genes and gene products that may allow these tumor cells to grow more rapidly than normal.

This information will help in the development of new more effective and non-invasive treatments for fibroids.

Dr. Delaney is a Board-Certified ObGyn and completed a reproductive specialty fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She is Board-Eligible in Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility and practices in Florida and Alabama with New Leaders In Fertility & Endocrinology.
